Hi - dad b. 29 Roland St., mum b. 20 Windsor Rd.

Dad's name - John Cuthbert Crowley, known as Jack.
Born 1915, d. 1985.

Mum's name - Mary: still alive and kicking at 93, living
independently at Whitchurch.

Anyone know them, or dad's cousin, Peter McCarthy?

Grand-daughter of David Henry O'keeffe whose parents were Ellen Cullinane (born in Cardiff) and James O'keeffe (born in Killeah, Co Cork) who were married in 1910. Anyone know anything about them?

My first guestbook entry doesn't seem to be here! I'll try again and see what happens. Answer to an earlier question about the houses in Sandon Place. They were larger than the houses in Newtown. Terrace with off-the-pavement front door. Front room, smaller middle room, back room with adjoining sculery/kitchen. Outside toilet. They had three bedrooms and a box room. Similar properties can be seen in the Adamsdown area. The houses along Adam Street (Opposite the Vulcan pub) were much larger with attic rooms and a cellar. They all could have easily been improved at little cost rather pulled down. Given its location I imagine they would now be expensive 'town houses'. It was a great place to live and I enjoy staying at the Ibis hotel on Guildford Crescent as it feels so close to home.

SANDON PLACE, LOVE LANE & ADAM STREET

I know these streets were not technically in the original Newtown though Sandon Place is in the 1881 Cardiff Street Map.
My grandparents and gt grandparents, the Coopeys' Keatings and O'briens lived in these streets with large families and I wondered if here is anyone on the site could tell me what the houses were like,
My father's late cousin Marjie Murphy gave me a lot of info about the family ( her mother and my grandfather were brother and sister) but I did't think to ask her about the houses.
I really would be grateful for any help.

Many thanks

Christine

Hi Heather,

The Memorial Garden is in Tyndall Street at the end of the railings of the ETAP Hotel. Actually if you scroll down the welcome page of this site you will find a Google Map which clearly shows the Garden.

Thanks for your kind comments about the site. Please let me know if you find the Garden and your family names.

Mary

Does anyone remember the above?

Maud, my grandmother; her husband, who died before I was born on 28th June 1944; and their four children, Violet and Monica, Tom and my father John Cuthbert, known as Jack. The only survivor is Monica, aged 93, and living at Fairwater.

My father dies in March 1985, but my mother, Mary nee Mead, of 20 Windsor Road, Adamsdown, is still very much alive and kicking!

I have many happy memories of the times spend during my childhood at Newtown.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who remembers this family.

David Crowley
