This is for Gill Kane.I remember your Aunt Joan Eadie nee Parker. My mother was Elizabeth (Bessie)Healan and she was brought up in 28 North William Street.I was 12 when Newtown was demolished but I had spent a lot of my childhood there and because it was such a small and close community everyone knew everyone else.I lived at 2 Morgan Street Adamsdown but as I said we spent a lot of time in Newtown with my mother's family.(She was one of 13 children so we had lots of relatives.)My mother passed away at 90 years of age back in 2001.

Please remember Joan Eadie, nee Parker, who passed away 30th October, 2012, formerly of 19,North William Street, Newtown. Joan and her sisters, Bernie and Vera, spoke with much fondness about their childhood in Newtown. Rest in peace Aunty Joan.

Paternal gm, Maud Crowley, lived at 29 Roland Street with her four 4 children: John Cuthbert, who was my father, known as Jack; Tom, who worked as a trolley bus conductor; Violet and Monica, - my father, was only one
to get married to Mary Mead, of Windsor Rd., Adamsdown.

Thank You

I am very grateful to the people who produced and maintain this website. It is a very good example of how a community, however small, can reclaim their history and present it to the world.

Not a resident of Newtown Cardiff, but another Little Ireland where the old community has just about gone. In Swansea the Greenhill, Dyfatty and Hafod used to boast a thriving Irish Community with the Dublin pub right in the middle.
