I was born in Morgan Street opposite the jail wall 1954. Driscoll's garage was
on the corner Nr Slocombes ? builders yard. Childrens names were Mary George, Magaret Williams, Kenny and Joseph Fox, Davis and cathy Dunscombe. The Minto's lived over the road nr Sandon place. Molly murphy's shop was on the corner past the Vulcan pub. A butchers warehouse with all the meat hanging inside was just below the railway bridge. Lots of memories playing in the 'doubles' on the train tracks and going to Guildford Cres baths.

Does anyone remember any of these times.

Maiden name CONNOR, my mother was a MCCARTHY Daughter of Florence MCCARTHY and Nora MURPHY they lived at 7th Row Newtown, Ebbw Vale had 8 kids. Just beginning my genealogy search but records get very sketchy in Ireland around 1800. Both sides of the family (Connor & McCarthy)seem to disappear in County Cork. There are some parish records but the sites they appear on are subscription and i cant afford to request records when I'm not sure they are even the right ones!!

Please remember Joan Eadie, nee Parker, who passed away 30th October, 2012, formerly of 19, North William Street, Newtown. Joan and her sisters, Bernie and Vera, spoke with much fondness about their childhood in Newtown. Rest in peace Aunty Joan.
