My family are Kenefick and from 1866 they lived in Pendoylan Street right up to the 1930s. I am looking for Newtown McCarthys, Welshs, Mansfields, Doyles as detailed below.

In 1891 there were Keneficks in 9 and 10 Pendoylan Street, headed up by Catherine Kenefick nee Donovan, who had married Timothy Kenefick in Merthyr Tydfil in 1855. Catherine died in 1918 and was then resident with a Jeremiah Donovan, assumed brother, at no 20 Pendoylan Street.
A son of Catherine’s John Kenefick was living in 22 Pendoylan Street in 1901 and her grandson was there in 1932. Descendants of John were Michael and then Peter, Irene, Chris and Mary.
My family talk of visiting the family in Pendoylan Street into the 1930s, particlualry for Corpus Christi.
Into the family married Margaret Barry b.1864 ; Mary McCarthy d.1918; Jimmy Welsh whose daughter was Julie Welsh; William Doyle b 1868 whose children were Cassie, Eddy and Billy.

I only know that the Kenefics lived in No 22 Pendoylan Street - next door to you and next door but one to us.(I'm going back to the Fifties now). I remember Mr Kenefic (Jack) very well. He was a larger than life character with white hair and a rosy complexion. He sat on a small stool out by the front door most days and was always cracking jokes.

I recall Mrs Kenefic as being of very slight stature with grey hair which was severely tied back in a bun. She wore a floral wrap- around pinny most of the time and she was always baking. She made the most amazing pastry and you would just die for her Welsh cakes. She once told me told that her secret ingredient was snow (I didn't think to ask her at the time what she used when it wasn't snowing!) I remember she had a very strong Welsh accent and although I'm not 100% certain, I think she originally came from Pembrokeshire and that Welsh was her first language. Hey Chris, I've just remembered. Wasn't your Nina (Nora Welsh, who lived in number 21) Jack's sister?
